Why is there so much mixing of the cavalier breed

In recent years I have noticed more mixed breeding than you mould consider usual. I am wondering if this trend is linked to the proliferation of poorly run puppy farms? I am supposing there is a link because there is a very high number of too finely bred puppies for sale.
